Sale time again!  I'm working on my new web-site with a fabulous web designer.  So, it's time to sell some fabulous yarn.   (and check out the bottom of this post.  There are some bargains...for a good reason)

Here are the rules, same as before.

Ok, New Stripe Sequence, and That Batt All Spun Up

Yesterday's Batt all spun up.  75% Silk, 25% Merino, plied with 100% Cotton thread. Approx. 245 yards.

And, here is the new stripe sequence.  You can see the two new colors there.  The light blue in the middle with two rows, and the bright pink at the top there in 4 rows. Not too sure about that bright pink.

And, here are my notes with the two new colors pointed out for you.  I had to rip back to the dark brown stripe of 6 last night and then continue back up with the new colors added in. 

We'll see.  I think I like it.  Wanna do this along with me?  I've gotten some emails about what pattern I am using.  Again, I have no pattern.  I'm making it up as I go along.  I'm doing a basic top down raglan with a hood and needed 84 stitches for the neck.  After talking to several people on Ravelry, they all said just to knit the flap of the hood with the neck stitches and then sew up the middle. Then place the markers for the sleeves and go to town.

Any other tips you guys can think of?  Really, seriously.

Stripe Sequence and a new Batt

So, here's the stripe sequence of my stripey sweater that I knit this morning. This'll be the hood.  What do you think? Do I need one more Classy in a lighter color after the maroon at the top there because the next color is the black at the bottom?  I'm thinking yes. Give me a shout!

And, here's 1/2 of a new batt I made this morning.  I've already spun up the other half.  Can you tell that I can't sleep?  This morning wasn't so bad though.  It was only 5:30 AM.

It's gonna be purdy! I am going to make some sort of a cowl or neck-warmer.

Ooooo Classy!

Yesterday at my LYS Colorful Yarns I saw all this "Classy" by Dream in Color and thought it was beautiful.  I had a credit at the store and so I bought all 8 colors that I liked. I want to knit a stripey sweater out of it and thought now what am I going to knit?

I searched all over Ravelry and found a few stripey sweaters, but none of them had any patterns to them.  They were all labeled "Personal Pattern."  Well, that's not good for me, since I don't know the first thing about writing patterns.  And, I'm no genius at changing a pattern.

I'm inspired by this:

Knit and designed by ThroughtheLoops (Ravelry Link) and I LOVE IT! It's a hoody, which I want as well, with a zipper, but I want buttons and it's STRIPEY!!!!!  Does anyone have a good pattern?  Does anyone know where to point me?  I need a pattern people.  I'm no Wendy Bernard (although I really wish I had her brain), or my most favorite kntting person in the world, oh, shoot, I have two....My most favorite knitting PEOPLE,  Kristi Porter, or Suzanne of Knitting in La Jolla fame (my link, scroll down to see Suzanne in the green dress explaining something cool, I'm sure) who both can knit anyone under the table.... Why oh why, does my brain not work like these people!?!

Anyway, I'm searching for a pattern. Got one for me?

Meanwhile on the other knitting projects - they all look the same.  Just maybe a few inches further along. My Cosmia sweater had the sleeves knit and then I realized that I forgot to do the increases while watching "The Godfather" with The Man.  I just kept knitting.  They'd be a little tight, eh?  Anyway, so those got ripped, and I've now knit each piece of this sweater twice. I could have had two for one here guys!

Spinning and Felting, Yarn Sneek

 

Yesterday and today I spun this in my spare time.  Enough with those giant skeins of yarn.  Just kidding, I still like them, but needed to get back into my comfort zone for a minute. It is Merino/Silk and some Angelina sparkley in there from Red Stone Yarns.  A friend of mine up in Boulder makes these amazing batts, and I just found these in my closet.  I have three total batts and so I spun one batt, divided up one other in two for the other bobbin and the current bobbin.  I think I'll have about a total of around 4 oz. at the end of plying.  We'll see.  (By the way, I'm finally using the Wooly Winder on my Schacht Matchless DT and I'm LOVING IT, so fast so easy and effortless. YEA!)

Ok, look at this cutie.  While Kid 2 was in swimming lessons, I sat in the bleachers and.... is that spelled right?  Anyway, I sat on the Bleechers.... still doesn't look right.  Ok, you get the idea.  I sat there and did my first needle felting, ever. It was so cool!  I bought this little kit at the Fancy Tiger the other day.  (Too tired for links.  Look in 2nd to last post) Isn't he cute?  Maybe not just like the picture, and he may need glasses or lasic or something with those wide set, googly, wandering eyes.  But, I think he's cute!

Well, I did it.  I got to meet the very first knit blogger I ever read.  Back in the day when all I did was scrapbook I was looking for some cool scrapbooking blogs and somehow I stumbled onto Knit and Tonic."  (I'm not sure why I had to link that here, since I know ALL of you read her blog, heh) and You, dear reader, know the rest of the story. Her book, Custom Knits (Amazon Link) is FULL of excellent designs for A:L:L body types.  Wendy says she's not a designer.  I beg to differ.  Her designs are innovative, flattering, and on the cusp of today's "Cool Factor." 

Wendy and I have had one of those "on-line" relationships.  We have tried to meet several times when I still lived in San Diego, and on each of our parts it never worked, so since she was coming out to Denver for her book signing, I knew I could make it work.  And of course, she was incredibly sweet, and very easy to talk too. 

I brought Kid 2 along for the ride, since The Man, and Kid 1 are out of town for the week, and Kid 2 loved it.  Although by the end of the evening, she was really ready to GO. 

Wendy held up the VERY sweater I want to knit out of her book, and it's even better in person, although you'd never know it from the bad pic I took...
 

And, how about these. 

LOVE the boots, LOVE the boots! I WANT the boots.  I think that they might even fit over my surgery foot.  Hmmmm, must FIND the boots. Although I am not sure I could pull them off!

And, my new friend Cheri knit and modeled her very own "Slinky Ribs" (pp. 76 in the book).  It's sooooooo CUTE!

Leigh Radford

And I got to meet Leigh Radford, who wrote one of the books that was soooooo cool to me back when I was learning how to knit a scarf.  You know, back in 2005 when knitting was on the rise. I just bought her next book called AlterKNITS Felt. I've never been interested in felt, but this book has really done it for me.  I can't wait to try out some of the things in there.

Oh boy....Oh boy.... OH BOY!!!!  This is one of the best classes I've EVER taken.  It's right up my alley with no rules, no boundaries, and no stopping the color everywhere. Here is one of the batts I made on the drum carder.  Crazy, eh?

And, here I am spinning it.....

  and here is Kid 2 modeling it for me at 7:30 AM Sunday.  She's tired.  And, grumpy. And, DOES NOT want this hat on her head. Warning = Fake smile ahead.

 

Merino/Bamboo/Silk/Mohair, sparkle, and whatever I could find. Plied with a green sparkle thread by Ricky Timms.  Five Vintage Buttons tops it off.

Sunday

 

This is some Amy Buttler Fabric that I spun up - about 20 yards worth and with the small "orifice," or hole, in the front of the spinning wheel where the yarn goes in, I about threw it out the window.  That was hard to do..

I see a new spinning wheel in my future.  One with a large orifice and HUGE bobbins.  This yarn works great on a wheel that is made for things like this.  My Schacht is a GREAT wheel for not this kind of yarn.  

 

And this above is what I made the little balls for in the last post.  Those guys are actually spun INTO the yarn.  Not the way I thought we'd do it, but VERY cool.  My favorite for sure.  I think a little goes a long way.

And, to move out of my comfort zone, I did a very neutral batt up above, and spun it with beehives and granny hats (or something like that). It's better looking in person. But, VERY pretty.

Everything everyone did was BEAUTIFUL!  And, now all of us in the class have decided that we want to meet once a month to spin at this totally cool place where we had the class.  It's called "The Fancy Tiger" and this place rocks.  The two owners are so much fun, are cool crafty chicks, and they have made a very homey store. They have yarn, they have spinning stuff of all kinds, they have fabrics, and they have classes for nearly every craft.  I am planning on taking the kids there for some sewing lessons.  AWESOME.  Can you tell I'm excited?  I was going to try to teach then to sew on my own, but this is better.  

All in all, this was one of the best classes I've ever taken.  Hands down.  I had fun the entire time, I got to meet new friends, and I've found a store that filled my sewing need.  I think this will be good.

And, now I'm ready for bed.

What is this....?

What is this you ask?  Well, clearly they are "Felt Nubbies." Can't you tell?  I made them this morning for my weekend long class with Lexi from Pluckyfluff.  I'm attending Camp Pluckfluff (as seen in my previous post here) on Saturday and Sunday and I CAN'T WAIT!  I plan on making some wild yarn, that's for sure.

More Family

Yes, that is a grape, with 1 in. flowers in the top created by my Sis-in-Law. Cute eh?

We have had more family in town this last week. Two weeks ago we had my family in town for a week, and there were 11 of us.  We traveled all around Colorado and checked out a lot of what Colorado had to offer.  Fun, exciting, but exhausting. 

This last week it was Byron's family in from Vancouver, Canada here for the Canadian Thanksgiving.  This time there were 16 of us, 9 of them kids ranging from age 3-12.  And, this time there was no Colorado sight seeing going on.  It was all shopping all the time, every day.  Those ladies can shop.  My sister in laws think I am SOOOOO boring when it comes to shopping, since I don't do it anymore. 

Back in the day, when I worked at Nordstrom in Point of View, I could out-shop anyone.  I looked awesome everyday.  I had all the latest 'looks" and I looked HOT. (so I thought), but at least I tried.  Today, I don't shop for clothes unless I absolutly have to do it.  I hate it.  I'm no longer a size 6-8 and can fit into anything.  I'm more like a...(what, you think I'd tell you my size??!!!) But, you get the picture.  I'm sad, and very disturbed that I can no longer shop so easily.  So, I tagged along with my sil's to every store here in our area and shopped with them.  It wouldn't be so bad if they actually BOUGHT something.  But, NO, they try things on endlessly, and occasionally buy (but, mostly not).  And, they look like a million dollars in everything since they are both STUNNERS.  I did buy some Mac cosmetics and my eyes got a "lift" so to speak.  That was fun.  I also bought clothes for kid 1 and 2.  Both safe purchases and both "fit" me, so no problems there. Also, fun, exciting, but EXHAUSTING.

The guys went shooting, and fishing and had an all around good time.... Here's Byron with his oldest nephew learning to shoot some clay pigeons, and the other uncle doing the throwing there in the background.

And, here's Byron with one of the other many nephews (look at them all there in the background) who caught the largest fish of the day! We ate this one, and boy he was good! Look how proud this kid is!

Should we have tried one more time to have a boy? I think Byron needs one, but I also think I might not have made it with three kids.  Two are enough....  I'll just borrow all my sister's boy-kiddos.  That sounds about right.

So, no knitting happened, but I've started right up again.  Maybe I'll have some things to show in the next few posts.
