Dye Day, Knitting in La Jolla Tour and Knitters Retreat

    Dye Day
First off - Today was dye day in the Tilden home.  Kid 1 is sick and I knew I'd need to be home all day, so I mixed up some dyes and took off.  Here is today's take.

This one is about 1,000 yards of Superwash Fingering Weight for socks for Byron.  He asked for this colorway specifically.

This yarn below is to make a hat designed by Kristi Porter.  You are looking at 50%Silk/50%Merino.  Yummy. Both my friend Lisa and I are going to make the hat together in Kristi's class. The bottom of the hat is both yarn colorways together and then the top will be plain purply black.  I could NOT capture the real colors of this yarn... It is much darker than it looks here.

Here it is up close and personal.  Look at that shine!

Then I dyed some funky stuff that has a cool dye pattern. There is a little plyed stripe that dyes darker than than the other ply.  I have enough for something big.  It's 2 lbs worth or 2,240 yards... All the skeins turned out different, so I'm not sure about how to work that, but boy are they pretty.  I guess I'll knit from two balls at once or something.... But what...?

And, that's all the dying there was today!

Knitting in La Jolla - Ahhhh,, my heaven, my refuge, my all time favorite place in San Diego. I thought I'd give you guys a little tour...

Here's the front door.  In the reflection you can see the Hard Rock Cafe across the way and someone's cool new Vespa parked there.  I'm going to steal that someday...

Here is what you see when you walk in the front door ---- That place is jam-packed with yarn up to the celing.  This is just one little section....

Class is in Session.  There is Kristi Porter in the orange. My friends Dawn in the cream colored sweater, and Lisa in the black shirt.  Beth is next to her...And, and new girl with the dark hair.

And there is Suzanne, the owner and propriater of KLJ and Kristi's friend in the pink who blows me away with her knitting! Suzanne is explaining something, I'm sure. I always glean something from any bit of wisdom she shares.

    San Diego Knitter's Retreat

Nancy of Bird's Nest Knits, Wendy (Spin) Black of Lanas de Libilula fame, Heidi from
Absinthe Knits , Hillari from Make Me, Yoly of no blog, and Christina from ChrissyPo all went up to Big Bear for some fun weekend knitting.  I finished a sweater!  I'll have to show you later, because really, it is too short, so Kristi will probably break out her magic scissors so I can lengthen it.  But the rest is done....yeahhhhhooooooo!!!!
    Knitretreat

Many funny things happend.  But this one took the cake.  These are two sleeves that followed Hillari out of the car door somehow.  She got out to take pictures and it just did NOT want her to leave.  Only a few stitches were messed up in the walk around.  Do not try this at home.
    Whoops

Ok, my big post is over.

    That's all she wrote!

    oh that yarn is GORGEOUS.
how did you dye it? handpainted?
i am learning to dye yarn and i am interested in how people get the varied colour throughout.
    thanks!

I want to learn how to dye!! Any tips for getting started - yarn, dye?
Also, life got in the way of me making a hat to send you plus I thought you were sending me the pattern? Does that little girl still need more hats? I'm feeling bad...

Holy cow that silk/merino is gorgeous! (they're all gorgeous but that closeup really struts it)

    Wow--loving the beautiful purple colors!

I'm glad to see that little area of balcony railing came in handy for the picture title :)

congrats on being the first to post about the weekend! It was fun! And that yarn is simply marvelous! It makes me want to dive right into it!

    Beautiful yarn!

Wow, talk about some cool yarn and some fabulous dyeing! I think Byron is very smart...those blues are lovely! Looks like y'all had a blast at the knitting retreat. Hope the kiddo is doing much better by now.

    The silk/merino is so beautiful!

Hey, I remember Knitting in La Jolla and how we tried to get together but couldn't! I ate a hamburger at that Hard Rock and even drank a glass of wine! Believe me, I think I exchanged a word or two with my husband about your move and about how cool it was to drive such a distance and actually touch yarns other bloggers touched, too (or at least, most likely).
