Hats for Melanie
Melanie is a little girl in Kid 2's class. Last Thursday she was attacked by an Akita Dog in her neighborhood here close by school. Her ear was torn off, her cheek, and her eye were mangled, and the entire top of her head was torn up. They had to shave her beautiful long red hair off. Essentially she is bald, except about 1 inch left in the back. She wants to wear hats, and so I knit her these two. Kid 2 in the pink hat is modeling Borrocco Softy. They aren't kidding, it's dang soft. The other yarn on Kid 1 is unknown as I misplaced the ball band. But the color is great. Not as soft for a bald little head, so we'll see if she wears that one.
I cannot imagine one of my babies with a dog on her attacking her. I would go balistic. look at those faces up there... I just can't imagine.
If you would like to knit Melanie a hat I can send you the pattern, or maybe you have one. I'm NOT a fast knitter and I knit the red one on Saturday in Knitting in La Jolla with Suzanne's help (and her pattern, I know she wouldn't mind sharing it) It was SOOOO easy! I think it took me about an hour and a half with breaks included. Then today I knit the pink one in about an hour. Totally easy. Melanie will need several plastic surgeries to get her back to normal. I got to see her y'all and it's not good. Anyway, she needs some hats, and I plan on knitting some more, does anyone want to help me out? If so THANKS!!!! Of not, just send her up some prayers and I thank you for that too!
If you want to knit a hat for Melanie, let me know in your comments, and I'll send you an email with my address to mail it to. Can you spread the news to some other knitters? I think she needs at least 7. That would be good....And, thank you. Really, thank you....
Happy Knitting!

That is such a terrible tragedy. I can knit a hat for Melanie by the end of the week.

Oh poor baby! I'll look through my stuff to see what's soft enough and light enough for a traumatised head.

Count me in! How devasted those parents must be! I couldn't even bear the thought. There but by the Grace of God...sure puts our daily little complaints and stresses into perspective.

I can knit one too. I assume that they are to be mostly for a cover-up, or is the air conditioning cold enough that she also needs added warmth? I will begin as soon as I get the pattern.

OMG, poor Melanie! All the best to her and her family.
(I hope they had the dog's owner put down.)

How horrible! Poor child, and I can't imagine what her parents are going through. I will definitely make a hat. A pattern would be great, or just how big to make one. I have lots of fun patterns, I just don't want to make the wrong size.

I will try to knit a hat for her too. Send me the size and where to send it. Poor little thing, I hope that she heals quickly both physically and emotionally.
